St. Andrew’s is the Parish Church of Gorleston and, as with any large group of people, the membership covers a very varied range: from babes in arms to folk well on in their nineties, from people in work to those looking for it, from those physically well to those who struggle with illness, from life-long Gorleston residents to new people on the block, St. Andrew’s is all about people, people with a huge variety of experience of life. What we have in common is that we are on a journey of faith, trying to know God better through Jesus. A Perfect Church?!
We are absolutely NOT a perfect Church, just a collection of sinners trying to live God’s way, trying to help and support each other, tapping into God’s resources of love, truth and forgiveness. We have a Mission Statement which says that we are here ‘to know Jesus better; to make Him better known’. We have focussed this on five aspects of Jesus’ life as told in the Gospels. Amongst other things, Jesus worshipped, healed, served, obeyed and welcomed people into God’s kingdom. So as a family of Christian believers, we are trying…
- to offer worship that pleases God and reflects the huge diversity of people living in Gorleston
- to be a means of God’s healing love and power
- to serve each other and the community in which we live
- to try and understand what God’s will is for us and then to obey it
- to make people welcome and help them in turn to be welcomed into God’s kingdom by putting their faith in Jesus.
