Coach Trips

The coach trips, organised by Carole Morris throughout the year, are very popular events and highly anticipated.

Next Coach Trip is to:

Grantchester and Bletchley Park Saturday 21st September 2019

Leaving St Andrews car park at 8.30am we will travel to Grantchester, a small village near Cambridge.  The TV series of the same name was filmed here.

We will stop at The Orchard Tea Gardens at about 10.30am. They serve breakfast if required or morning refreshment, the scones were lovely! From the Tea Gardens you can walk through the Orchard to the church and village, the filming for TV included scenes inside and outside St Andrew and St Mary’s Church, The Green Man and Blue Ball pubs, and Grantchester High Street from the church all the way to the  Rupert Brooke pub.  There is also a river walk from the Tea Garden to the High Street. If you don’t feel energetic you can sit in the Orchard under the apple trees and enjoy your refreshments. There is also inside seating available. Grantchester has been host to many famous people including poets and writers. Many pictures of them are in the café. We will leave Grantchester at 12noon and travel to Bletchley Park.

We should arrive at Bletchley Park about 1pm“Bletchley Park is the home of British codebreaking and a birthplace of modern information technology. It played a major role in World War Two, producing secret intelligence which had a direct and profound influence on the outcome of the conflict.” “ Many of the codebreaking huts have been restored Visit the restored Codebreaking Huts 3 and 6, where Enigma messages sent by the German Army and Air Force were decrypted, translated and analysed for vital intelligence. In these iconic huts, the atmosphere is recreated with rooms dressed to resemble what they once were when Codebreakers worked there.” One of the codebreaking huts is now the restaurant serving hot and cold food. You are welcome to take your own picnic.  There are some gardens but not extensive.

We will leave Bletchley Park at 4.30 pm arriving back at church at about 7pm.
